The Foundation
The Florida Lions Foundation for the Blind, Inc. was founded in 1958 to provide sight care to the needy through the Lions of Florida (Multiple District-35). Later, the Foundation's scope of operations was expanded to include grants to aid Lions-sponsored or Lions-associated sight care related agencies within MD-35. Often times, a club's members hear of an individual who needs eye surgery but has no insurance and insufficient funds to pay for the surgery. Our project chairs work with local doctors and hospitals to hold down medical costs and stretch our dollars. Many times we are able to negotiate the price down to the point that the Foundation pays less than the Medicaid rate paid by the federal government.
Funds to support this eye care program are received only through individual club donations, interest from a trust fund, grants, and bequests to the Foundation. The Foundation keeps expenses extremely low. There are no offices, no inventory, no loans to pay off. There is only one paid position, and the salary and expense allowances are modest. The overhead rate, consistently less than ten percent, is lower than most charities.

Eye care for the needy and support of MD-35 major projects is limited only by the generosity of the Lions and friends of the Foundation who believe in the Foundation's work to save and restore sight to those less fortunate. When the Foundation helps a child or an adult to see anywhere in a district, it is a miracle. This miracle is shared by every Lion in MD-35. The Foundation truly enables our clubs and individual Lions to be "Knights of the Blind."

All active members in
good standing of Lions Clubs in Florida and The Bahamas are automatically active members of the Foundation. A
non-Lion may become a member by making a donation. The Foundation does not charge
its members dues or assessments. All members are invited to attend Foundation
meetings as announced in the Florida Lions Magazine, on this website, and
through other mailings.
All members have voting privileges at the annual Foundation meeting each May.
We welcome your comments, questions, and suggestions.
